In 1998, Linda Moorehead joined BLACKHAWK and worked at NASA's facilities in support of the company's contract to handle space station logistics. She quit for a year to work for another NASA sub-contractor before returning as BLACKHAWK's Human Resources Director in 2000.
In January 2003 Linda Moorehead learned that her employer was on the verge of going out of business. While walking the dogs with her husband Stan, she pondered
the fate of the 13-year-old company. She knew the company was in dire straits, but thought she
saw what needed to be done.
She decided that it was time for her to go into business for herself and in
February she made arrangements to buy the company and took over as CEO. Then in April she completed her purchase of con-trolling interest in BLACKHAWK stock.
A major change Linda Moorehead made was to give the company's Vice Presidents in the field the power to take a more active role in marketing. This enabled
Blackhawk to expand business to other military sites or other areas of expertise.
"Taking risks is a part of personal growth," says Linda Moorehead,
BLACKHAWK's president and CEO. "It doesn't mean that you're reckless. It means
that you understand the impact of your actions beforehand. We had the right people; we just had to do the right thing. And I had to take the risk.”
Linda Moorehead's secret for success isn’t secret at all. “Bottom line is, I absolutely love what I do. If you don’t love what you do, no matter what it is, you won’t do it well. You have to love what you do and success will follow.”
