Description for Classes of Procurement

*Class 1: Flight & Mission (*Critical) Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will cause loss of Life, Flight or Mission

Class 2A: Flight and Mission (Non-critical) Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably cause loss of Life, Flight or Mission cause failure in Certification testing.

Class 2B: EDM / Certification Controlled Type Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably result in altering the outcome of a mission or testing.

Class 3A.I: Controlled Type Hardware- (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably result in altering the out come of a mission or testing.

Class 3A.II: Raw materials- Bar, round, sheet or plate raw stock (e.g. aluminum, steel …etc.).

Class 3A.III: Hazardous Solid or Liquids Items- (Flammable liquids. Solvent, paint, thinners…etc.) Items must be accompanied with copies of MSDS sheet

Class 3B: Services (Out-sourced) - calibration of Inspection/ test equipment, NDT/NDE, Certification/Acceptance environmental testing, Vibration testing…etc

Class 3C: Special Processes (Out-sourced)-Heat treating, anodizing, alodining, plating, EDM ( Electrical Discharge Machining)Chemical etch, Repairs …etc

Class 4: Prototype/ Training type hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) who failure would have no affected on the outcome of a test or training activities

Class 5: Miscellaneous Items (Office equipment and supplies, Production expendables (except for hazardous materials) by definition requires no inspection
