Quality Requirements for Classification of Control Hardware
Description for Classes of Procurement
*Class 1: Flight & Mission (*Critical) Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will cause loss of Life, Flight or Mission
Class 2A: Flight and Mission (Non-critical) Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably cause loss of Life, Flight or Mission cause failure in Certification testing.
Class 2B: EDM / Certification Controlled Type Hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably result in altering the outcome of a mission or testing.
Class 3A.I: Controlled Type Hardware- (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) The failure of which will probably result in altering the out come of a mission or testing.
Class 3A.II: Raw materials- Bar, round, sheet or plate raw stock (e.g. aluminum, steel …etc.).
Class 3A.III: Hazardous Solid or Liquids Items- (Flammable liquids. Solvent, paint, thinners…etc.) Items must be accompanied with copies of MSDS sheet
Class 3B: Services (Out-sourced) - calibration of Inspection/ test equipment, NDT/NDE, Certification/Acceptance environmental testing, Vibration testing…etc
Class 3C: Special Processes (Out-sourced)-Heat treating, anodizing, alodining, plating, EDM ( Electrical Discharge Machining)Chemical etch, Repairs …etc
Class 4: Prototype/ Training type hardware (Parts, Materials, Sub-assemblies or Assemblies) who failure would have no affected on the outcome of a test or training activities
Class 5: Miscellaneous Items (Office equipment and supplies, Production expendables (except for hazardous materials) by definition requires no inspection
General Comments
- *Critical hardware is defined as hardware system and/or assemblies, who failure will cause loss of Life, Flight or Mission
- Quality Clause Q8 – “Inspection System”- Should be in compliance with ISO 9000. The systems should be subject to a Pre-award survey by the Blackhawk Management Corporation Quality Assurance Representative.
- **Quality Clause Q11.(b)- “ Visual Inspection” Shall pertain to Workmanship which includes all surfaces shall be protected against foreign material, sharp edges or burrs and/or damage during manufacture and storage prior to delivery. Material shall not be treated or touched up in any manner to conceal defects and shall be free of defects which adversely affect the safety, function, performance, serviceability, interchangeability, appearance, or longevity of the unit.
- Quality clause Q14- “Mercury Exclusion”- Shall pertain to production items which are to be operating in a vacuum environment.
- Clauses Q24 - applies to raw materials which is used in the production of deliverable products
- Quality Clause Q19- “Production Tooling”- Shall pertain to Blackhawk’s Procurement of Special tooling and/ or Test fixtures only.
- Quality Clause Q20.a – “Weldment Samples”- shall be required for structural and/or load bearing welded joint assemblies.
- Quality Clause Q23- “Dye Penetrant Inspection”- Also pertains to Class I, II, & III welded joints. Two Copies of the Inspection report with each shipment.
- Quality Clauses Q22, 23, 25, & 26 - “ NDE Test Methods”- shall be in accordance with the requirements specified on the Drawing, with a copy of the inspection report with each shipment.
- ***Quality Clause Q-27 - ESD ( Electrostatic Discharge) requirements Shall be applied separately if specified on the applicable drawing, on classes 1A,2A&B, & 3.A.I items
